Too much time

I realize allot of people have wondered why I have spent so much time here. This is the best answer I can give you. Every decision has to be passed between 2 people that never really had a clear decision on anything. And they differed between the two of them. I could only take a background drop, and kind of go with what they wanted, but only really had what they alloted me to work with. Thus, neither one are totally happy, but both are ok, I think, with what I did. They wanted a more rustic look..but did not provide me with the materials to do it. And I advised against it anyway. Using rough sawn lumber as interior trim invites a great deal of high maintenance cleaning issues. It is going to be hard enough with the exposed beam ceiling in the basement and log walls on main floor. Cobwebs come to mind. Easy to brush off a smooth surface, but try it on a rough one once. Anyway, I am rambling, another couple days to pics of finished, although I will be here a tad bit longer. I need to build a gun cabinet for my father while I am here, and have another small job to do in the town I am near that I picked up on the side. I will post the pics of the gun cabinet when I get it done. It is about 25 years too late in delivery, but I am hoping it is going to be worth the wait.

I am not gonna post any more pics till I am done, and that will be very soon. This has been a very interesting experience for me, and one I would gladly do again. It has been a long time since I have been as content as I am in a location.

Went and got them today. Counter tops too. Taking tomorrow off, but will be finishing the last of the flooring on Sun. Then starting the cabinets.

This was hard to do myself, so I held off on it. With Tyler here, it went fairly smooth. The trick was getting the log brackets turned just right in the handrail. Had to do it while holding the handrail in position.

I removed the comment moderation. Took me a while to figure out how, but I am kind of internet not so savy. I see no need for comment moderation here as critisism is not an issue with me where my work is concerned. If I were going to make a political blog, I might concider moderation, but nothing here is or ever will be political. Imperfection

I think I need to interject something here. This home I am currently working on is totally out of the template of what I am used to. Perfection here is imperfection. To make something flawless here is to make it with flaws. This is actually a hard concept for me to overcome. A perfect fit is unacceptable. A door must look like it was removed from a 100 year old barn, stripped, refinished, and installed here. That is not a look I am used to providing. In all my years of finish carpentry, flawless wood and the flawless joining of it was priority. Here, it is the opposite. However, to say that I am not having fun would be untrue. And I am learning new things. I guess, I am expanding my horizons.

I ended up totally disassembling the railing and spraying it, then reassembling it. I think I made the right choice. Also, I reassembled from the top down, rather than bottom up. It turned out to be allot easier that way. Got it all done in one day. I will post pics tomorrow. I prefer to do daylight pics I think for the natural lighting. I might do some closeup's too, to highlight some of the more interesting effects.

Ugg, last pick had a bunch of spots on it I did not see first look. Might have been from rain, not sure, gonna try to fix it tomorrow.

I did not revise this post, as it did not really matter, and it was rain spots. Cleaned the lenses of my camera, and just continued.

This is time consuming, but still, falling under my figures on how long it would take. I am satisfied with progress, but was really hopeing for better. But, as I have never done anything like this before, I guess I should be happy .

Here are some examples of what I have created with the material you saw on the sawhorses in the previous post. The pantry door is the creation of my son Loren, I just helped. The black you see in the top panel is blackboard. for those who might want details, the chalkboard is 2 sections of 1/4" hardboard. I used contact cement to make a single 1/2"sheet that I sprayed with 3 coats of chalkboard paint. I used all 1/2" datos to make the mortice and tendons. That allowed me to do all the work with the same setup.
